Abū Hamīd bin Abū Bakr Ibrāhīm (1145-1146 - c. 1221; Persian: ابو حمید ابن ابوبکر ابراهیم‎), better known by his pen-names Farīd ud-Dīn (فریدالدین) and ‘Attār (عطار - "the perfumer"), was a Persian Muslim poet, theoretician of Sufism, and hagiographer from Nīshāpūr who had an abiding influence on Persian poetry and Sufism.

'Attar, Sufi poet and mystic, is best known for his book which is translated in English as The Conference of the Birds. Margaret Smith's sympathetic and competent work includes an account of 'Attar's life, and mystical doctrine, followed by translated selections from his major works. This paperback book is a facsimile of the first edition, of 1932, in John Murray's Wisdom of the East series.
